1868
Shimer and Sons Inc. was formed and obtained 90+ unique cutter head patents.
1909
A Canadian branch of Samuel J. Shimer and Sons Inc. was established in Galt, Ontario.
1913
Officially Canadian owned & operated under the name of Shimer Cutterhead Co. of Canada Ltd.
1956
The company was reorganized as Galt Wood Tool and Machine Co., Ltd.
1972
The name changed to Galt Wood Tool Ltd. and started using tungsten carbide to manufacture and service carbide-tipped saw blades, knives, and cutters.
1989
Galt Wood Tool reorganized as ‘Galt Wood Tool 1989 Limited’ under the management of long tenured employees.
2018
Added precision CNC sharpening equipment to better serve customer needs.
2020
Become a distributor for kitchen hardware and accessories.
2022
New ownership expanded product offerings and invested in technology to increase physical and digital accessibility for all customers.
2023
Galt Wood Tool rebranded to become GWT and launched a new website with enhanced product and service offerings.
